6.Modifications for some and Challenges for others
Modifications will be made when it is determined a student is struggling to complete assignments, or it has already been determined that assignments should be modified to meet the needs of the student.
Specific modifications for assignments could be:
1. KWL chart: Students will only be expected to list one item for each section.
2. BrainPop Quiz can be printed out for those students who need that kind of modification. More time can be give, if needed.
3. Students who need help with tickets out the door can work with other students.
4. Modifications can be made to the branch of government research project. The students might be expected to only list 1-2 jobs and the persons who does these jobs.
5. When doing the compare and contrast activity, modifications could be made by allowing students to list 1 way each of the branches are different and one way they are all the same.
6. When students are given the tickets out the door, modifications can be made for students when needed. The students needing additional time or help could be allowed to take the tickets out the door home and to use their Social Studies books for help.
Higher level students
These students will be encouraged to take their assignments and projects further. These students would be given higher level thinking questions to ponder while doing this unit. One example could be "How would you change how the three branches of government work?"
These students could work all the way through one or more of the webquests listed as resources for the research project. Additional activities will also be included on the "Finished! Now What?" page.
7. Timeframe for unit
The approximate time for this unit is 4 weeks. Modifications can be made as deemed necessary to meet the needs of the students.
